Näin vuoden lopuksi on varmaan paikallaan tehdä pieni katsaus menneeseen. Tänä vuonna olen muunmuassa...

Huhtikuussa tapahtui: lähdin reilaamaan kolmatta kertaa. Muutenkin vuoteen mahtui reissausta, muunmuassa nämä paikat tuli nähtyä: Angoulême, Strasbourg, Praha, Zurich, Reims sekä Étretat !



Toukokuussa aloitin uudessa työpaikassa ja nautin keväisestä Pariisista



Vuoden aikana ehdin kirjoittaa monen kiinnostavan vastuullisen suunnittelijan työstä 



Kesällä otin vähän blogilomaa ja vietin aikaa Lontoossa ja Skotlannissa. Blogiloma vähän venyi työkiireiden takia, mutta syksyllä palasin kuvioihin uuden nimen ja uuden energian kera!



Syksyllä olen tehnyt kaikenlaisia projekteja ja muunmuassa alkanut suunnitella häitä



Joulukuussa jaoin tämän jouluisen DIYn ohjeet. Muuten joulukuu sujui hyvissä mutta kiireisissä merkeissä

Tästä on hyvä jatkaa ensi vuodelle, joka on toivottavasti edellistäkin parempi! Missä merkeissä teidän vuosi 2014 on sujunut? Onko suuria suunnitelmia vuodella 2015? Ajattelin kirjoitella vielä erikseen tulevan vuoden suunnitelmista, ja lisäksi tulossa on pieni yllätys! Siihen asti, hyvää uuttavuotta kaikille!

Moved back to Paris

Shared our home story, renovated our apartment and made some plans

In April I shared some exciting news: my interraill trip! Actually this year I've gotten travel quite a bit, for example to these cool places: Angoulême, Strasbourg, Praha, Zurich, Reims and Étretat.

In May I started in a new job and enjoyed the springtime in France

During the year I blogged about several interesting ecodesigners

In the summer I took a blog break and spent some time in London and then in Scotland. The break was finally a bit longer than intended due to busy times at work, but I came back with a new name and a lot of new ideas!

Autumn was fun but full of things to do, such as starting to plan our wedding

In December I shared this Christmassy DIY. Otherwise the holiday season was busy but good. 


Year 2014 was good but I hope the next year will be even better. How was yours? Do you have any special plans for the year 2015? I'm going to write more about my plans for the 2015 soon and there's also a small surprise to come so stay tuned! Untill then, Happy New Year!

HÄÄSUUNNITTELUA: hääpuku / wedding planning: the dress

One Day Bridal / Casablanca Bridal

Hääpuku - toisaalta yksi hauskimmista ja toisaalta yksi vaikeimmista osista hääsuunnittelua, ainakin omalla kohdallani. Kriteerini ovat nimittäin aika tarkat: en halua pukua jota voin käyttää vain muutaman hetken ajan ja lisäksi toivoisin puvun olevan eettinen. Lisäksi budjetti ei ole suuri, mikä tietty asettaa rajoitteita.

Jo alusta asti oli selvää, että tekisin itse puvun. Osaan ommella ja itsetekeminen laskisi puvun hintaa huomattavasti. Samalla voisin tehdä kaksiosaisin puvun, jota olisi myöhemmin helpompi muokata muihinkin käyttötarkoituksiin jos siltä tuntuu. Myös eettisyyspuoli olisi helpomi handlata, koska ainakaan ei tarvitsisi arvuutella missä puku on tehty ja voisin valita itse kankaan ja koristeet. Tämä oli alkuperäinen suunnitelma puvun suhteen, kunnes itseasiassa äitini ehdotti että hän voisi tehdä puvun minulle lahjana. Suostuin toki ilomielin, sillä se helpottaa juttua huomattavasti! Kiitos äiti :)

Tyylin haluaisin pitää yksinkertaisena ja ajattomana, pienin vintagevaikuttein. Puvun pitää kestää matkaaminen kahden maan välillä, joten mitään kermakakku-unelmaa en olisi voinut harkitakaan, mutta onneksi se ei tyylini olekaan! Tässä on muutamia inspiskuvia, lisää olen koonnut pinterestiin. Mitä tykkäätte tällaisesta simppelimmästä tyylistä? Ja jos siellä on muita jotka ovat uskaltautuneet tekemään itse pukunsa otan meielläni vinkkejä vastaan!

The wedding gown. For me it's been one funniest part of the wedding planning, but also one of the hardest. I don't want a dress that I can only wear for one day and I'd also want it to be ethic and ecologic. Also, our budget is not that big so it sets definitely some limits.

From the beginning it's been clear to me that I'd make my own wedding dress. That way I could choose the fabric and the model I wanted, I'd knew exactly how it's made and it would also be a more suitable choice considering my budget. I was also thinking of making  the dress in two pieces so that later it would be easier to use it for other occasions if I wanted to. But then, after hearing about my plans, my mom suggested that she could make the dress! I of course accepted because it's so much easier to have somebody helping you, so thanks mom :)

I want the dress to be simple and timeless with a touch of vintage style. It also has to travel several times between the two countries so anyway I couldn't have had a big poofy dress but luckily it's not my style at all! And if there's anybody who's made their own dress I'd love to hear how it was!

HÄÄSUUNNITTELUA: Save the dates / WEDDING PLANNING: Save the dates

Toivottavasti tämä joulua edeltävä viikonloppu on sujunut kaikilta hyvässä meiningissä. Täällä ollaan jo loman vietossa, mutta viikonloppuun on kyllä mahtunut muutakin kuin lomailua, omalta osaltani viisaudenhampaiden poisto (auts!). 

Häiden osalta on tapahtunut edistystä, save the date-kutsut lähtivät matkaan pari viikkoa sitten. Onni on graafikko sulhasena, siitä osaamisesta on paljon apua kutsujen ja muun kanssa! Kuva on otettu Versaillesissa J-M:n isän toimesta, joten näissä näkyy kyllä monen läheisen ihmisen kädenjälki. Kolmikielisten häiden tekstit oli vähän hankala saada mahtumaan, mutta tärkeintä tietty on että kaikki ymmärtää mistä on kyse. Tykkään ite kyllä kovasti, entäs te?

I hope you're all having a great pre-Christmas weekend! We've being doing a lots of stuff, some nicer (like meeting the caterer) and some not-so-nice (like getting rid of my wisdom teeth, ouch).

Anyway there's been some progress in the wedding front! We send our Save the Dates a couple of weeks ago and I have to say I really like them. It's great to have a graphic designer/artist as a husband-to-be, he did all the design after we talked about it together. And as the pic is taken by his dad you can see the input of several family members which I really like. As our wedding is trilingual it was somewhat hard to fit all the text but the most important thing is of course that everybody could understand what's going on. What do you like?

Rue du Mars

Viime viikolla käytiin pikareissulla Reimsissä katsastamassa paikalliset joulumarkkinat. Alkuperäisenä suunnitelmana oli Strasbourg, mutta neljän tunnin automatka ei oikein kiinnostanut. Reims osoittautuikin oikein mukavaksi matkakohteeksi, sinne pääsee helposti junallakin Pariisista vain 45 minuutissa. Tässä muutamia matkavinkkejä (tällä kertaa englanniksi, sillä en jaksanut kirjoittaa kaikkea kahteen kertaan!) jos ikinä satutte suuntaamaan Reimsiin!

Last week we did a quick trip to Reims, a lovely french city about 150 km from Paris. We planned to go to Strasbourg but at the end we decided against the 4 hour drive, whereas you can easily visit Reims in only one or two days as it's much closer to Paris (only 1h15 by car or 45 min by train). So, if you ever happen to head up to Reims, here's some tips!

- Notre-Dame of Reims Cathedral The famous cathedral where many kings of France were crowned. Next to the cathedral you can find The Palace of Tau, the residence of the Kings of France before their coronation.

- Reims Christmas Market, the Place d'Erlon The famous Christmas market where you can spend hours drinking hot wine and doing some christmas shopping.

- There's nice app made by the tourist office of Reims, just download it and you'll get a lot of info about all the most important sightseeing spots.

EAT & DRINK

- Les Halles du Boulingrin, 50 rue du Mars (open Wed 7 am - 1 pm, Fri 7 am- 1 pm & 4 pm - 8 pm, Sat 6 am - 2 pm) Reims' main food market takes places in this beautiful building in Art Deco style. There's also a couple nice of coffee shops/restaurants in the building. In the nearby streets (especially Rue de Mars and Rue du Temple) there's plenty of coffee places, brasseries, delis, pastry shops etc!

- Café du Palais, 14 Place Myron Herrick Great atmosphere if you like the old fashioned brasserie look! 

- Near the Christmas market you can find many traditional brasseries and coffee places.

Regional specialities

SHOP 

- Regional specialities include champagne, pink biscuits (called biscuits roses) and gingerbread. You can find these in many shops, and you can even visit a champagne fabricant or the most famous fabricant of pink biscuits, Le Fossier.

- Pop Up Store Local Designers, 37 Rue des Capucins Every christmas local young designers organize this small but lovely pop up shop where you can find all kinds of gifts.

- Les fees du style, 81 Rue Chanzy I didn't get a chance to visit this shop but I've heard it's great. It carries many Scandinavian decoration brands such as Bloomingville. 

- Le nid de la pie, 5 Rue Clovis this great shop sells everything you need to make your own jewelry. The best part? You can even make them at the shop so you don't need to buy all the tools and the staff is very willing to help! I hope we had this shop also in Paris.

GETTING AROUND

- Car
We rented a car to get around. It was sometimes hard to find a parking place but otherwise it was a good way of getting around.

- Walking
City's not that big so you can definitely walk around!

- Public transport
Trams and buses run frequently and are cheaper than in Paris!

+ STAY

- We stayed at a place we found from the AirBnB. After a day spent strolling down the alleys of the christmas market it was really nice to have an entire place for oneself, make some tea and curl up on the sofa.

DIY Pahvinen joulukuusi / DIY Cardboard Christmas Tree

Jep jep, joulu on jo ovella mutta mitä tehdä jos perinteinen kuusi ei innosta? Me ollaan jo pidemmän aikaa J-M:n kanssa haluttu tehdä joulukoriste joka olisi helppo laittaa esille joka vuosi. Kun keittiörempasta jäi jäljelle reilusti pahvilaatikoita, oli valinta helppo: pahvinen, koottava joulukuusi. Idea ei toki oli kaikista originaalein, näitähän löytyy muualtakin, mutta kuusi oli tosi hauska valmistaa ja lisäksi se on tehty täysin kierrätysmateriaalista. Siksipä päätin jakaa teidän kanssa tämän helpon DIYn, tulostettavine malleineen. 

Jos joulunaikaan löytyy hetki vapaata aikaa niin tämän saa vielä valmiiksi ennen joulua. Toivottavasti tykkäätte! Laittakaa kommenttia jos on kysymyksiä, ja jos joku päättää kokeilla niin olis mahtavaa kuulla miten teidän versiot onnistui.

DIY pahvinen joulukuusi 

Tarvikkeet:
- isoja pahvilaatikoita tms
- mattopuukko
- metalliviivoitin
- leikkuualusta
- teippiä
- tulostin
- kynä
- halutessasi maalia, hileitä tms kuusen koristeluun

Ohjeet

1. Lataa ja tulosta oheinen PDF- tiedosto. Kuusi on A3- paperin kokoinen joten saatat joutua tulostamaan sen useammassa osassa ja teippaamaan osat yhteen. Voit toki tulostaa kuusen pienempänäkin, minikuusi olisi tosi söpö! 

Kolme kuusta ovat identtisiä, vain lovet ovat eri kohdissa. On ihan mahdollista tulostaa vain yksi kuusi ja piirtää lopuksi lovet mallin mukaan oikeassa koossa.

2. Leikkaa tulostamasi kuusi ääriviivoja pitkin.

3. Sijoita leikkaamasi kuusi pahvin päälle, piirrä ääriviivoja pitkin ja leikkaa mattopuukon ja viivoittimen avulla.

4. Toista sama kunnes sinulla on 3 kuusta. Leikkaa lovet oikeisiin kohtiin.

5. Kokoa kuuset yhteen.

Voilà! Voit joko jättää kuusen sellaisekseen tai koristella sen maalilla tai vaikka decoupage-tekniikalla. Me teimme lisäksi kuuselle jalustan loppupahvista, mutta homma toimii kyllä ilmankin.

So the Christmas season's already upon us, but what to do if you're not into buying a traditional Christmas tree? We pondered over this question with J-M and decided to do our own version of a Christmas tree. We wanted to do something that would be easy to store for next year plus we already had plenty of cardboard at hand, so the choice was obvious. I know you can find this kind of trees elsewhere as well, but it was such fun to put together that I decided to share our version with you, with downloadable pattern and all.

So if you happen to have some extra time this Christmas season I recommend to give it a try! If you should have any questions don't hesitate to leave a comment. Also, if you decide to make your own I'd love to hear it! 



DIY cardboard christmas tree

Materiels:
- Cardboard (Big cardboard boxes or similar)
- Cutter or utility knife
- Metallic ruler
- Cutting mat
- Tape
- Printer
- Pencil
- Paint, glitter etc for decoration (optional)

Instructions:

1. Download and print the pattern. Note that it's size A3 so you might have to print several pages and tape them together. You can also make a smaller size, a mini tree would be really cute!

As you can see, all three trees as the same except for the slots. To save paper and time you can print just one of these trees, use it as a model, and then cut the slots so that they correspond.

2. Cut the Christmas tree you just printed.

3. Place the Christmas tree model on cardboard, trace following the lines and cut with a cutter, using the ruler and the craft mat.

4. Repeat until you have 3 Christmas trees. Cut the slots in each tree.

5. Assemble.

And you're ready! You can either leave the cardboard as it is or use paint, glitter etc. to decorate it. You can also use the extra cardboard to make a pedestal, but it should also hold together without.

Olen onnistunut käymään tänä vuonna muutamilla joulumarkkinoilla, mutta parhaat täällä Pariisissa on kyllä olleet Etsyn joulumyyjäiset! Jos satutte olemaan tällä hetkellä Pariisissa niin piipahtakaapa, vielä huomenna auki!

I've managed to visit some Christmas markers this year but the best in my opinion was the Etsy Christmas sale. If you happen to be in Paris at the moment don't miss it they're still open tomorrow!

häÄsuunnittelua: juhlapaikka Suomessa / wedding planning: Our venue in Finland

Viime viikolla esittelin vähän meidän juhlapaikkaa Ranskassa. Tällä viikolla onkin sitten vuorossa Suomen juhlapaikka, ihana Bokvillan Helsingin Arabiassa. Paikka on meille tuttu erilaisten yhdistystapahtumien kautta joten valinta oli helppo. Asiaa auttoi toki se että vanhassa villassa on ihana vanhan ajan tunnelma niin sisätiloissa kuin puutarhassakin, ja ehdot on varsin rennot (cateringin saa valita itse ja koko talon saa käyttöönsä iltamyöhään asti). Lisäksi sijoitan vuokrarahani paljon mieluummin kaupunginosayhdistyksen tukemiseen!

Oletteko ikinä käyneet Bokvillanissa? Jos satutte alueelle niin suosittelen lämpimästi, talossa toimii muun muassa mahtava Kaffila Bokvillan!

Last week I presented our wedding venue in France so this week I'm posting some photos of our venue in Finland. We chose this lovely old house called Bokvillan in the Arabia neighbourhood in Helsinki. We already knew the place so the choice was quite obvious! The house is normally used as a local café and they organize all kinds of happenings for the people living in the area. The house and the garden are very lovely and besides I'm happy giving my money to a local association that is doing so much for the neighbourhood.

If you're ever passing by I really recommend stopping at Bokvillan for a coffee :) Have a great Sunday everyone!

Kirpparilöytöjä / thrift finds

Viime postauksessa vilahtikin yksi viime aikojen kirpparilöydöistä: nämä metalliset kirjaimet. Olen himoinnut jo pidemmän aikaa sellaisia isoja metallkirjaimia, mutta budjetti ja tila kotona ei ole oikein antanut myöten. Nämä Sabluunaksi alunperin tarkoitetut levyt kelpaavat hyvin myös koristetarkoitukseen ja korvaavat vähän niiden "oikeiden" kirjainten puutetta!

Samalta "brocantelta" eli katukirpparilta löytyi myös meidän uudet keittiön tuolit. Pinnatuoleja tulee tosi harvoin ranskalaisilla kirppareilla vastaan joten iskettiin heti silmämme näihin. Tuolien kotiinkantaminen metrossa lieneekin ollut sitten vähän koomisempi näky ;)  tuolit kaipaavat tosin uutta maalikerrosta, mutta ovat muuten tosi hyvässä kunnossa.



Pariisin kirppikset on kyllä toisinaan ihan parhaita: viimeisenä löytönä viiden euron naulakko helpottamaan eteisen hattu- ja laukkukaaosta. Tähän ehdin jo sutaista ohuen kerroksen valkoista maalia, pinta saa jäädäkin tuollaiseksi vähän kuluneeksi.

Täällä kirppikset ovat joskus melko kalliita, mutta löytöjäkin voi tehdä kun vähän penkoo. Pitäisikin esitellä joku päivä kodin kaikki parhaat kirpparilöydöt! Ootteko te tehneet viime aikoina hyviä kirpparilötöjä?



One of our latest thrift finds are these metallic letters. I've been wanting those big, industrial style letters you see every where for some time now, but as our budget and space is limited, these will work just fine in the meantime!

From the same "brocante" we found these for our dining table. This kind of scandinavian style is hard to find in Paris so we just had to bring them home. They just need a fresh coat of paint and they'll be like new again!

Gotta love Parisian flea markets: we found this ??? For only 5 euros some time ago. I already gave it one coat of white paint and I think we'll keep it like that, I like the rustic look.

Parisian flea markets can be expensive but you can always find good deals, you just have to go through a lot of stuff. Luckily I love thrifting! This reminds me, one of these days I should show you all the thrifted stuff we have at home!

hääsuunnittelua: juhlapaikka Ranskassa / wedding planning: Our venue in France

Kuten mainitsinkin, niin jotain merkittävää on meidän elämässä tapahtunut viime aikoina: viiden yhteisen vuoden jälkeen ollaa päätetty mennä naimisiin ensi kesänä. Aion täälläkin jakaa vähän hääjuttuja, koska se on kuitenkin aika iso asia tällä hetkellä.

Monikulttuurisena parina häiden järjestämisessä on aina omat juttunsa, ja mekin mietittiin pitkään mikä olisi paras kaava. Lopulta päädyttiin ehkä vähän epätyypilliseen ratkaisuun eli kaksien juhlien järjestämiseen, näin mahdollisimman moni vieraista pääsee paikalle ja jotenkin suunnitelma tuntuu tasapuolisemmalta.

Ollaan päästy mielestäni jo aika hyvään vaiheeseen siihen nähden että häät on ensi kesänä: meillä on esimerkiksi molemmille juhlille paikat ja catering. Etelä-Ranskassa, jossa varsinaiset häät järjestetään, juhlapaikkana toimii Château La Castille, vanha viinitila ja linna. Tärkeintä meille oli juhlapaikan läheisyys vihkipaikan kanssa sekä mahdollisuus vieraiden majoittumiseen joko paikanpäällä tai ihan lähellä, ja molemmat kriteerit täyttyy tässä paikassa! Omia kuvia paikasta ei vielä juurikaan ole, mutta toivottavasti nämä muutamat Castillen omat kuvat kelpaa.

Rentoa sunnuntai-iltaa kaikille, toivottavasti itsenäisyyspäiväviikonloppu sujui mukavasti!

As I mentioned already, after five years of happily living together we've decided to take the next step and to get married. The wedding will take place next summer and I'll be sharing some parts of the planning over here as well as it's a big part of our lives at the moment.

As a multinational couple the planning of a wedding is never easy. We pondered over the different options for some time but finally we decided to organize two receptions! It just seemed more equal, and it will be easier for our guests to participate.

We've already got the venues and the caterers so I think we're getting there. The actual wedding will take place in the southern France and there our venue is Château La Castille, an ancient castle and a winery. The most important for us was that the ceremony and the reception wouldn't be too far from eachother and that our faraway guests could be accommodated near or in the spot. Luckily, this place is perfect in both ways! I don't have many photos of the place yet even though we've visited it several times, but here are some photos from their website.

Jouluisia ideoita / Christmas ideas

Vaikka jouluun toki kuuluu kaikenlaista hässäkkää niin siitä huolimatta olen kyllä jouluihmisiä. Mikäs sen parempaa ajanvietettä kuin kuunnella joululauluja ja väkerrellä muutamia joululahjoja tai koristeita, glögin taikka punaviinilasin kera tietty!

Tänä viikonloppuna isännöidään pikkujouluja meidän luona ja vaikka aika viime tinkaan kaikki järjestelyt jääkin, niin jotain jouluista pitäisi kyllä keksiä. Even though christmas is such a busy time I still love it. What would be better than spending an evening listening Christmas carols and doing some DIY?

We're throwing a small get-together for some friends this weekend and we sure should come up with some Christmas decorations. Here's some ideas from Pinterest, we'll see what we'll have time to do!
