Ecodesigner of the week: 31 bits

I've seen plenty of paper bead jewelry, and I've even made some myself. But last week I discovered a brand that makes so cool paper bead accessories I knew I had to post about it. 31 Bits produces all their products in Uganda from recycled paper. Their mission & story is pretty inspiring, I recommend reading it here!






Every purchase you make can either have a positive or negative impact on the world. 31 Bits is part of a movement revolutionizing the way people do business. We value both the creator and the consumer. The artisans in our program are receiving a sustainable income and holistic education, empowering them to rise above poverty. Our accessories are marked by fresh colors and crisp design.

Paperihelmikorut - ei mikään uusi juttu. Mutta viime viikolla bongasin niin makeita versioita, että eihän näistä voi olla bloggaamatta. 31 Bits on merkin nimi, ja kaikki nämä korut ja asusteet on tehty Ugandassa kierrätyspaperista. Merkin tarina on aika inspiroiva, sen voi käydä lukaisemassa täältä. Myös blogi on aika hyvää luettavaa, paljon DIY-vinkkejä, tarinoita merkin takaa yms. 

Mitäs tykkäätte? Omaan makuuni ainakin iskee, harmi vain ettei Ranskassa näytä olevan yhtään jälleenmyyjää. Mutta onneksi on internet ;) Ja hei, hyvää viikonalkua kaikille!

Ecodesigner of the week: Tom's

I'm sure you all already know Tom's, the famous footwear company that donates one pair of shoes to somebody in need for every purchased pair. I guess they don't need any further introduction, so here's just some of my favourites from their current collection! What's your favourite?

"In 2006, TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie befriended children in a village in Argentina and saw that they didn’t have adequate shoes to protect their feet. Wanting to help, he created TOMS Shoes, a company that would match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes for a child in need. One for One.® In 2011, the One for One model was expanded and TOMS Eyewear was launched. With every pair purchased, TOMS helps restore sight to a person in need. One for One."

And here are some faves for men...

Nowadays, Tom's makes also glasses with the same principal, and coffee, too! With every bag of coffee purchased, they supply clean water to those in need. Great, right? The founder, Blake Mycoskie, has also written a book titled Start Something That Matters. Is there anybody who has read it? I'd like to know if it's really that good!

Kaikki varmaan tuntevat jo Tom's -merkin, jonka erikoisuutena on se, että jokaista ostettua kenkäparia vastaan lahjoitetaan kengät niitä tarvitseville. Nykyään merkki myy myös laseja samalla periaatteella, ja uusimpana aluevaltauksena on kahvi! Jokaista kahvipakettia vastaan tarjotaan puhdasta vettä alueilla, joissa siitä on pulaa. Merkin perustaja, Blake Mycoskie, vaikuttaa kyllä aika inspiroivalta tyypiltä, ja onpa kaveri ehtinyt kirjoittaa kirjankin. Onko joku ehtinyt lukea? Alkoi tehdä mieli lukea tuo opus, mietin onko se yhtä hyvä kuin kehutaan :)

Tässä muuten muutamia suosikkejani tämänhetkisestä kokelmasta, mistä itse tykkäilet eniten? Ja hei, toivottavasti kaikkien viikonloppu sujui mukavasti, täällä Ranskassa se vielä jatkuu kansallispäivân merkeissä :) Nyt kutsuu juhlapäivän lounas, näkyillään!

Ecodesigner of the week: Ainokainen

Ainokainen is an independent ecodesign brand from Finland. Designer Netta Kervinen creates unique dresses and accessories out of surplus and recycled materials, all handmade in Finland. These photos are actually from their last collection (new collection is coming out soon, according to her blog!) but I couldn't resist posting them. I really like the combination of lace & modern body jewelry. What do you think?

Ainokainen on varmaan jo monille tuttu merkki, mutta en voinut vastustaa näiden kuvien postausta. Tykkään nimittäin tosi paljon tästä pitsin ja vähän rouheampien korujen yhdistelmästä! Blogin mukaan uutta kokoelmaakin on tulossa pian, joten sitä odotellessa. Ainokaisen vaatteet valmistetaan kaikki Suomessa, kierrätys- ja ylijäämämateriaaleista. Pisteet siitä!
