This week-end: We Love Green

Hey all, hope you're having a great weekend! The weather has been great in Paris this weekend (finally!) and we've spent most of time outdoors. And that's also for today, since I'm going to the festival We Love Green. 



We Love Green is a music/art festival here in Paris, and it's supposed to be an all-ecological event. I'm curious to see what it's going to be like, since this is the first time I'm going. I promise to tell you later all about it!

Hei, miten viikonloppu sujuu? Pariisiin on (viimein!) saapunut hyvät säät, joten meidän viikonloppu on sujunut enimmäkseen ulkona. Eilen vuorossa oli esimerkiksi koko iltapäivä mölkyn, kyykän ja petankin peluuta hyvässä seurassa :) Mölkky on tosi suosittua Pariisissa, joten useat sen jo tuntevatkin, mutta kyykkä herätti vähän kummastuneita katseita ;) 



No, tänään raittiista ilmasta nauttiminen jatkuu, sillä olen suuntaamassa We Love Green- festareille. Kyseessä on siis musiikki/taide- festivaalit täällä Pariisissa, ja koko tapahtuman on mainostettu olevan täysin ekologisesti järjestetty. Pitää siis mennä paikan päälle katsomaan mikä meininki, hyvältä kuulostaa! Lupaan laittaa sitten kuvia tännekin :)

Ecodesigner of the week: boboboom

This past weekend with my mon we visited Ma planete mieux, an ecological lifestyle fair here in Paris. One of the most interesting brands I spotted was Boboboom. They make bright and modern home decoration items and small furniture mostly out of upcycled materials. I think they have a great stye, I especially like these bottle lamps!

 Boboboom is a creative company specialized in the design of furniture and decorative objects. We would like to believe that our creations bring personality and individualism into the living spaces they adorn.

At Boboboom, we pride ourselves in our fierce commitment to upcycling and we think that reinvesting in our environment is a priority: to save our planet we must reuse and not discard.

Viikonloppuna piipahdettiin äidin kanssa Ma planete mieux - messuilla täällä Pariisissa. Messut keskittyvät ekologiseen elämäntyyliin ja muutama hyvä juttu tulikin bongattua. Yksi niistä on Boboboom, joka valmistaa kodin sisustustuotteita ja pienhuonekaluja enimmäkseen kierrätysmatskuja käyttäen. Boboboomin tyyli iskee ainakin minuun, nuo pullolamput esimerkiksi on ihania!

What are you guys up to this weekend? My mon is visiting us and that's why yesterday we decided to go for a day trip in Giverny, the town where Claude Monet used to live and paint. His gardens are incredible, so it was really worth visiting. Have you ever been?

Hei, miten viikonloppu sujuu? Me käytiin eilen päiväretkellä Givernyssä, Claude Monet:n kotikaupungissa. Mun äiti on vierailulla meidän luona, joten hyödynnettiin tätä tekosyytä visiitin tekoon, sillä itsekään en ole koskaan ennen käynyt Givernyssä! Oli kyllä vierailun arvoinen paikka, onko joku muu joskus käynyt?



Nyt suuntaan töihin mutta nähdään taas ensi viikon puolella. Mutta tosi hyvää sunnuntaita kaikille!

Ecodesigner of the week: Elvis & Kresse

Hey, all did you have a good weekend? I was so busy at work but I hope during this week I can relax a bit more. Anyway, todays ecodesigners is Elvis & Kresse from UK. Elvis & Kresse specialises in producing luxury accessories from old firehose and other reclaimed material. Lately, Cameron Diaz wore one of their belts in a shoot for American Vogue! 

Elvis & Kresse have been reclaiming heroic materials ever since we fell in love with London Fire Brigade's decommissioned fire-hose. After a distinguished career fighting fires and saving lives the hoses were destined for landfill. We started to rescue it in 2005 and never looked back. 

More materials soon followed, Kresse has always had an obsession with waste and likes nothing better than discovering and intercepting something new. The challenge is the same every time - what can we do to prove value, change perception, and respect these resources.

We dream of a time without landfill, when everything is recycled or composted. Between now and then we know there are far too many incredible materials that will either languish under ground or suffer the indignity of incineration; when that happens we lose, we lose quality, narrative, and the opportunity to do something great. So we intercede, choosing story laden materials of incredible character, and do everything we can to ensure their second life is as long as possible.

We are constantly searching for more materials to grow our range of bags, belts and wallets, and have rescued over 200 tonnes so far.

Hei, miten viikonloppu sujui? Itselläni meni kiireisesti työn merkeissä, toivottavasti tällä viikolla voi ottaa vähän rennommin. Tänään on kuitenkin viikon ecodesignerin vuoro, joksi valikoitui tällä kertaa brittiläinen Elvis & Kresse. Elvis & Kresse valmistaa luksusasusteita vanhoista paloletkuista ja muista ylijäämämateriaaleista. Hyvältä näyttää ainakin omasta mielestäni, ja ilmeisesti myös Cameron Diaz tykkää, sillä hänen päällään näitä on nähty vähän aikaa sitten amerikan Voguessa! Oma suosikkini on kyllä tuo matto, mutta myös laukku kelpaisi, tai vyö, tai... Mitäs te tykkäätte? Ja muuten, jos on vinkkejä hyvistä ecodesignereista niin innolla otetaan vastaan! Siihen asti, hyvää alkavaa viikkoa :)

Hey all, what are you up to this weekend? I'm gonna be superbusy with work but that's ok, we have some really nice events that we're going to participate to here in Paris. 

Also, I realised I haven't posted yet what I got from my last travel. I definetily didn't spend all my time shopping, but since I visited so many nice design and vintage shops, of course I had to get some souvenirs ;)

Fabrics from lovely Fray Tulpe, one of my favourite DIY magazines (even though I don't understand German!) CUT, cute bowtie from HardDeCore design shop in Prague, and some bling bling jewellery from different places in Berlin. Confession: I also got a really nice vintage dress but more on that later :) And I also got some stuff for j-m, like locally made Berlin honey!

What are the favourite travel souvenirs you've ever got? I'd love to know what are your best finds!

Kiireinen viikonloppu työn merkeissä edessä, mutta mitäpä tuosta kun työ on mukavaa! Tajusin myös juuri etten olekaan postanut mitä viime reissulta tarttui mukaan. Vähän vaan tuliaisia itselle ;) Toki toin muutamia juttuja myös j-m:lle, kuten Berliiniläistä hunajaa!

Mitä suunnitelmia teillä on viikonlopulle? Ja mitkä on teidän lempimatkamuistoja? Olisi hauska tietää, mitä eri löytöjä ihmiset on matkoiltaan tehneet!

Ecodesigner of the week: Christopher Ræburn

A couple of weeks ago I spotted the book Ecologist Guide to Fashion by Ruth Styles at my favourite parisian bookstore. I highly recommend it! It's easy to read and, because of the small size, it's easy to carry with you (important for people like me who love to carry a book all the time with them!). Reading it reminded me of some ecodesigner I have yet to post here, including Christopher Raeburn. But let's leave him introduce himself! 

                    

Christopher Raeburn designs for both women and men and his designs are always interesting yet really functional. It's hard to come across with well-designed menswear when it comes to upcycled design, so I really appreciate his work. Here are some photos from his SS 14 collection for men, SANDSTORM.

"SANDSTORM looks to the versatile and inspiring uniforms of the stoic men of the Long Range Desert Group. The Remade pieces perfectly capture the seasonal inspiration with lightweight outerwear crafted from signature parachute fabric and surplus desert mesh blankets, once used for camouflage."

Muutama viikko tein löytöjä Pariisin lempikirjakaupastani: mukaan tarttui Ruth Stylesin Ecologist Guide to Fashion. Jos ette ole vielä lukeneet niin suosittelen! Kirja on helppolukuinen ja pienikokoinen (plussaa jos on samanlainen kuin minä eli tykkää aina kantaa kirjaa mukanaa!). Kirja muistutti lisäksi sopivasti muutamista suunnittelijoista joista en ole vielä täällä postannut, kuten Christopher Raeburnista. Suosittelen katsomaan esittelyvideon ja käymässä katsomassa lisää kuvia mallistosta nettisivuilta. Itse todella arvostan suunnittelijoita, jotka onnistuvat tekemään sekä mielenkiintoisia että käytännöllisen oloisia, kauniita vaatteita, joten Raeburnin tyyli iskee kyllä täysin minuun. Lisäksi miehille on tarjolla todella vähän hyvää upcycle-designia, mutta Christopher Raeburn onnistuu tässäkin. Mikä on teidän lempimalli Raeburnin kokoelmasta?

Have a good weekend

This have been a bit hectic around here since starting my new job so that's why I missed writing yesterday. Anyway, I'm also excited to tell you guys more about my new job! My new job is in Paris in this cultural association called Débrouille Compagnie, and I'll be mostly working as a workshop instructor, teaching arts and crafts. If you happen to be in Paris please come to say hi! We have a workshop space and a boutique where artisans around the word can sell their work, and both are situated in Paris 19th!

Okay, then some other cool things from this week:

- My friends at Remake EkoDesign in Helsinki just lanced their new collection and they've also published instructions to all their designs so that everyone can DIY them! So cool.

- I was honoured when Etsy ended up quoting me in this post. But if not for my oh-so-wise words go to check all the other good answers people have given to the question: Why do you create?

- Speaking of Etsy: I really like the products from iSkelter.

Okay now some food and then off to writing my travelposts (finally!) Have a good weekend y'all!

PS. I snapped the photo near République the other day, I thought it was so inspiring for the summer and I like the phrase "de la nature"! Even though Paris is great, sometimes I wish it was a bit greener so this made me happy when passing by.




Uuden työn kanssa on pitänyt vähän kiirettä joten eilisen postaus jäi väliin. Mutta ei se mitään, mitäpä tuosta yhdestä päivästä vai mitä :) Uusi työpaikkani on siis Pariisissa, yhdistyksessä nimeltä Débrouille Compagnie. Kyseessä on aika unelmaduuni, koska pääsen tekemään sitä mitä parhaiten osaan: ohjaamaan taide- ja kädentaitokursseja, painotuksena ekologisuus & kierrätys! Jos satutte olemaan Pariisissa, niin tervetuloa moikkaamaan: meidät löytää kahdesta osoitteesta 19sta kaupunginosasta, toisessa on työpajat ja toisessa putiikki, jossa käsityöläiset ympäri maailman voivat myydä tuotteitaan. 

Muutamia muita hyviä juttuja tältä viikolta:

- Remake kyllä osaa! Mirjami ja Outi ovat paitsi suunnitelleet tosi makeen malliston, myös julkaisseet ohjeet jotta kaikki voi duunaa tuotteet myös kotona. Hyvältä näyttää!

- Olin yllättynyt ja otettu kun Etsy päätyi lainaamaan sanojani täällä. Mutta jos ei vaan mun viisauksien vuoksi niin käykääpä katsomassa mitä muutkin on vastanneet kysymykseen: Why do you create?

-Etsystä puheenollen: etsyihanuuksia iSkelteriltä. Mulle kävis mikä vaan malli, entä sulle?

PS. Nappasin tuon kuvan République-aukion lähellä tässä yksi päivä. Vaikka Pariisi on mahtava niin joskus toivoisin vähän lisää vehreyttä, joten tämä tosiaan piristi keskellä betoniviidakkoa. De la nature, tosiaan! Vähän inspistä tulevaan kesään tästä!

Ecodesigner of the week: SAG + SAL

Hey all! Okay, last week I missed writing this series, but hey, I was in Berlin and there was just too much to see. Anyway, here's one brand cool brand from Berlin I found: SAG+SAL.



"Sag+Sal bags & accessoires are made of used printing blankets. The combination of materials and construction makes Sag+Sal the only label of its kind. Each bag is created from a single piece, cut and folded ingeniously, fastened with book binding screws and embellished with furniture strapping. What you get is an upcycled, aesthetically pleasing, unique and super strong bag with not a stitch in sight. These blankets, constructed from two layers of rubber and one of linen, are the high end material used in offset printing presses and once their life on the press is over."

I think I might get one the next time I'm in Germany! I really like their colour combinations and I think I could manage to fit all my stuff (including my camera, which I have always with me!) in their bags. What do you think? Their website is only in german, but here's more info in english.

Okei, viime viikolla tämä juttusarja jäi väliin, mutta siihen on hyvä syy: Berliini. Oli vaan liikaa nähtävää ja tehtävää! Bongasin kuitenkin matkan varrelta monia hyviä löytöjä, joista tässä yksi: SAG+SAL. Berliiniläinen merkki valmistaa kierrätysmatskuista aika makean näköisiä ja värisiä laukkuja, jotka myös vaikuttivat aika tilavilta. Iso plussa jos itseltäni kysytään, että kamera mahtuu mukaan! Saattaapa olla, että seuraavalla saksanreissulla hankin yhden omakseni. Nettisivut ovat saksaksi, mutta esimerkiksi täältä löytyy lisätietoa englanniksi. Mitäs itse tykkäätte näistä laukuista? Sattuuko jollain olemaan kokemusta tästä merkistä? Lupaan, että pian päästään niiden matkapostauksien makuun, mutta just nyt suuntana toinen päivä uudessa työpaikassa!

What's up friday

Hey all! Did youcelebrate the first of May yesterday? In Finland, it's a big thing, but here in Paris there's no big celebrations. The only tradition, rather sweet in my opinion, is that all the guys bring lily-of-the-valleys to girls. So here are mine!

Also, more big news: I've got a job! I started today, and I couldn't be more excited! But it also means that this week-end I have to get a ton of stuff done in order to well concentrate to my work on Monday. So see you next week and hope you have a great week-end!

He, mitenkä vappu sujui? Täällä ranskassa vappu ei ole mitenkään iso juttu, mutta yksi perinne toukokuun ensimmäiseen kuuluu: tapana on, että miehet tuovat kieloja perheen naisille. Aika söpöä vai mitä? 

Oma vappu kului muutenkin lähinnä lepäillessä ja valmistautuessa yhteen isoon muutokseen: uuteen työpaikkaan! Aloitin virallisesti tänään, itse työpaikasta lisää myöhemmin. Olen ihan innoissani tästä uudesta pestistä, mutta se myös tarkoittaa että tänä viikonloppuna pitää hoitaa vaikka mitä. Eli palailen luultavasti tänne blogin puolelle ensi viikolla! Siihen asti, hyvää viikonloppua kaikille!
