Easy idea : 3D collage

Just a quick idea for this week: if you like doing collage, try sometimes doing it on a three dimensional objec. I did this workshop one time with a group and everybody loved it, because it's an easy technique but a new approach. I got this big metal jars from a local market, they're used to storage cucumbers! So this is also an upcycling project - from a tin can to a personalized storage bin. Simply cut, glue, let try a bit and seal. What could be more easy?
 

   

Helppo idea: kolmiulotteinen kollaasi. Tehtiin näitä jättipurkkeja yhden ryhmän kanssa, ja se oli ihan menestys. Kollaasi on tekniikka kaikille tuttu, mutta lähestymistapa uusi kun se muutetaan kolmiulotteiseen muotoon. Näitä isoja kurkkupurkkejahan saa ihan marketeista kun pyytää, sillä ne on menossa metallikierrätykseen. Joten samalla tämä on "upcyclingia", roskasta käyttötavaraksi, eikö? Ja tosi helppoa: leikkaa, liimaa, anna kuivua hetki ja lakkaa. Eipä voi paljon helpommaksi tulla!

Happy Easter! + Easy idea

Hi all! We're back from St. Petersburg, but going through all the photos takes some time. So this time I'm only gonna wish you all Happy Easter with these photos, including something new in the series of an easy idea: finger printing!

 

See how my Easter plants have grown? I've already been eating the barley on my sandwiches.

 

I have no other Easter decorations but pussy willows. But I feel that sometimes it's not necessary to purchase or make all the decorations for all the festivities, sometimes you can go with a minimalistic + natural way. 

And now for the idea of this week: Finger printing. I know it's a little bit late to share Easter craft ideas, but this technique can be used on a variety of projects. The little chicks and the pussy willows have been created simply printing with finger tip on paper. This is an easy thing to do with children also. Just one tip: before printing your finger, print once on foam to leave all the extra paint on it. The egg card is simply decorated with fabric tape.

 

 

I'm going to spend the rest of my Easter holiday baking carrot cake and having coffee with friends. How was your Easter? Was it relaxing? Did you do smething special?

Oikein hyvää pääsiäistä kaikille näin viime tipassa! Koska pääsiäinen kului Pietarissa, tässä vain loppuun muutamia kuvia täältä kotoa. Meillä ei muita koristeita ole kuin pajunkissat, mutta joskus on mun mielestä hyvä mennä simppelillä ja luonnonmukaisella koristelulla.

Viikon ideana on sormenpääpainanta, josta esimerkkinä nämä tiput ja pajunkissat. Tämä idea tulee toki vähän myöhään pääsiäistä ajatellen, mutta sitä voi hyvin soveltaa vaikka mihin. Muista vain tupata sormi vaahtomuoviin tms. ennen paperille painantaa, niin extravärit jää siihen. Korteissa on koristeena myös kangasteippiä.

Täällä loppupääsiäinen tulee kulumaan porkkanakakkua leipoessa ja kavereilla kahvitellessa. Miten sun pääsiäinen meni? Oliko rentoa? Teitkö jotain erityistä?

Easy idea: planting activities

Planting is always fun, but I associate it especially with Easter time, so the idea of this week is to plant something! Here in Finland we plant traditionally ryegrass before Easter, but I decided to plant some easy, edible plants: snow peas, some barley and peppercress.

Here's basically all you need to start planting: potting soil, seeds, and pots.




And then it's time to get started!


And just a couple of minutes later, you'll have this:


Remember to follow the instrucions given with seeds concerning watering, the type of earth, etc. Here I think I planted even a bit too much of peppercress, but hey, at least I'm sure to get something! 

I used these new planting pots I made out of recycled materials. How do you find them? If somebody's interested to see a tutorial, I sure can do that. Also, I love this quote in the background from Ella Wheeler Wilcox: A weed is but an unloved flower. Happy planting everybody!

Istutusjutut on aina hauskoja, mutta itse yhdistän ne varsinkin pääsiäisaikaan. Tällä kertaa halusin istuttaa perinteisen rairuohon sijaan syötäviä, helppoja kasveja: sokerihernettä, ohraa ja krassia. Istutusjuttuihin ei paljoa tarvitse; vain multaa, siemeniä, ja astiat. Itse käytin astioina näitä juuri kierrätysmatskuista tekemiäni, mitäs pidätte? Voisin hyvin tehdä niistä tutoriaalin, jos kiinnostaa. Hyvää kevään alkua kaikille!

Idea of the week: Drawing lines (blindfolded!)

Hello all, how's your Monday? To honour the start of the new week I've decided to start a new feature on this blog: Easy idea! The purpose of this feature is to present creative projects that are easy, fun and easily adapted to different groups.

You can test these ideas
- By your own, if you're serching for something new to do
- With friends & family
- With kids
- If you're a rectional instructor as I am, you can actually do these with almost any group

To complete the projects you don't need any former knowledge or experience. I've personally tested all the ideas just by myself and with various groups, from children to adults. Let's get started!

Hei, minkälainen maanantai on menossa? Uuden viikon kunniaksi olen päättänyt aloittaa uuden sarjan tässä blogissa: Easy idea. Sarjassa on tarkoituksena esitellä erilaisia luovia projekteja jotka ovat helppoja, hauskoja ja helposti sovellettavissa.

This weeks project is about art. To get started, you'll need:
- white, thick paper in any size you want
- Black markers
- Colours (water colours, pens, anything goes!)

Tämän viikon aloittaa taideproggis. Sitä varten tarvitset:
- Valkoista, paksumpaa paperia missä tahansa koossa
- Mustia tusseja
- Värejä (vesivärejä, värikyniä, mitä tahansa!) 



1. Draw lines at the paper with the black marker pen without lifting it from the paper. So actually, it's more like a one long line. As you can see in the photo, I tend to draw really geometric, straight lines, but you can do curvy lines, or continuing circles, or anything you want. To make this step even more fun try to do it blindfolded or by closing your eyes, like I did for this example! This is especially funny in a group.

1. Piirrä viivoja paperille tussilla nostamatta sitä paperista. Oikeastaan kyseessä on siis yksi jatkuva viiva. Kuten kuvasta näkee, omani tuppaavat olemaan geometrisiä muotoja ja suoria viivoja, mutta viiva voi olla kaartuva tai ympyrämäinen tai mitä tahansa. Tämä vaihe on vielä hauskempi jos sen tekee silmät sidottuna tai silmät kiinni, kuten esimerkkikuvaa tehdessänikin tein! Tämä vaihtoehto on erityisen hauska ryhmässä.



2. Open your eyes and take a look at your work! Next step is to colour all the areas between the lines that you want with the colours you want. You can choose to colour one only, some of them or even all of them. 

2. Avaa silmäsi ja ihaile aikaansaannostasi! Seuraava askel on värittää viivojen väliin jäävät alueet. Väritä niin monta kuin haluat -yksi, muutama tai vaikka kaikki- niilä väreillä kun haluat.

I also completed one post-card size not closing my eyes and colouring it with water-soluble pens. It's funny, normally I don't use such a bright colours but the spring time seems to make me want to use them all!

Tein esimerkkinä myös yhden postikortin sulkematta silmiäni ja värittämällä sen vesivärikynillä. Hassua, yleensä en käytä kovin kirkkaita värejä, mutta kevät saa käyttämään niitä kaikkia kerralla!

This art practice is so fast to do you can do it as a warm-up exercise, to help you to concentrate. In a pedagogic way, I find this practice especially usefull for people who tend to not to use all the paper (I admit, that's me also!). It's also a good way to learn to conceptualize the size of the paper and everything you can do in it. And then, it's just simply funny to draw something without knowing the outcome :) You can also do it so that one person does the line and other persons does the colouring. There's so many ways to use this practice!

If you should try this by yourself or with a group, I'd love to hear about it! And if you have any other similar projects, I would surely want to give them a try!

Tämä harjoitus on niin nopea että sitä voi käyttää lämmittelyharjoituksena, joka auttaa keskittymään. Pedagogisesti, tämä on mielestäni hyvä harjoitus niille, joiden on vaikea käyttää koko paperia (kuten minä!). Tämän tehtävän avulla voi myös opetella hahmottamaan paperia ja mitä kaikkea sille voi mahtua. Ja lopuksi, onhan vaan hauskaa piirtää jotakin mitä et tiedä :) Voit myös tehdä harjoituksen niin, että yksi henkilö piirtää rajat ja toinen värittää. Tätä tehtävää voi tosiaan soveltaa niin paljon!

Jos kokeilet tätä yksin tai yhdessä, olisi hauska kuulla siitä! Ja jos on mielessä jotakin samankaltaisia projekteja, niin niitä olisi tosi hauskaa kokeilla!
