We Love Green, part II

Hey how are you guys? Yesterday was my birthday and to celebrate that we booked a last-minute trip to Lille! We got back really late yesterday and that's why it's been a bit quiet around here. I'm still really tired so just a quick update! 

A couple of weeks I ago I participated to We Love Green, an ecological music festival here in Paris. I promised to tell you later how it was so here are some cool photos I found from their website (I concentrated on music & food & such, so not that many photos!). It was a nice festival and if you're ever in Paris during the time of the event, you should definetily check out. They still have lots of stuff to do if they really want to be more ecological (such as avoiding all those plastic cups, plates etc) but at least they're trying. And it's pretty cool that they produce their energy with a solar power center they built themselves! It was a real hipster heaven with cool food stalls, flower crown workshops etc, so if you're a hipster this is your thing ;)

Hei kamut, mitä kuuluu? Eilen sattui olemaan mun synttärit, ja sen kunniaksi me suunnattiin kahden päivän yllätysmatkalle Lilleen! Me päästiin kotiin eilen tosi myöhään, joten siitä johtuu hiljaisuus täällä blogin puolella. Pikapäivitys kuitenkin yhdestä tapahtumasta, jota lupasin kommentoida!

We Love Green on vuosittainen ekologinen musiikkifestari jossa itse kävin ekaa kertaa pari viikkoa sitten.Ja jos joskus satutte Pariisiin samaan aikaan niin suosittelen kyllä katsastamaan. Festarilla on kyllä vielä tekemistä jos haluavat olla täysin ekologisia (ne kaikki muoviset lautaset ja aterimet...) mutta täytyy myöntää, että jos festari tuottaa energiansa itserakennetulla aurinkoenergiakeskuksella niin on ainakin yritystä! Muuten festari on kyllä varsinainen hipsterien mekka (kukkakruunu- työpajaa, smoothiebaaria ynnä muuta löytyy!) mutta jos sattuu itsekin olemaan edes vähän hipsteri niin kyllä sinne mukaan mahtuu ;)

Travel Guide to Strasbourg

So a couple of weeks ago I interrailed through Europe for the third time in my life (more about that in here). Ever since I came back I've been wanting to share my tips with you guys but going through all those photos and things I collected took some time. But here we go, my tips if you're going to visit the lovely city of Strasbourg!




Strasbourg is a beautiful and very peaceful town situated near the German border. I immediately fell in love with the city since it's rather a big city (in french scale!) yet it has this small-town feeling. Unfortunately, I happened to visit the town on a rainy Easter Monday, so many places were closed. But I enjoyed just walking around, it was so nice to have some calm compared to Paris! Strasbourg is famous for its Christmas markets and I'd love to visit there again in the Christmas time.

SEE & DO

- Odyssée Cinéma de Strasbourg, 3 Rue des Francs Bourgeois
Go to see an old movie in a magnificent movie theatre. They also have coffee shop / bar with terrasse.

- Take a stroll along the riverbanks. The city center of Strasbourg is on an island so there's a lot of riversides to discover! 

- Grande Ile, Strasbourg's historic city center. This is a must-see. It's one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites and it's such a lovely place to walk around, take photos or have a picnic.

- Strasbourg Cathedral and several European institution buildings. Strasbourg is the official seat of the European Parliament, so if you want to see fancy buildings, this is your city.

EAT & DRINK

- Restaurant Boats. There are several to choose from. Barco Latin looked very interesting, unfortunately I didn't have time to test it this time though!

- PUR etc, 122 grand rue / 15 place Saint Etienne
 My favourite place for lunch & coffee! Local food and reasonable prizing made this place my favourite spot.

- Gagao, 20 rue des Frères
The best hot chocolate ever. They also have a nice terrass for the summer!

SHOP 

- Rue des Hallebardes
All the famous french and international brands can be found on this street, my favourite being of course Ekyog!

- Grand Rue
One of the main streets with shops, coffee places, boulangeries etc.

- Polychrome, 5 Rue de l'Arc en ciel
Objects,small furniture and accessories from 50's to 70's. So retro!

- Monogram Plum & papier, 6 rue des Juifs
Leather goods, paper supplies, pens etc.

- La Droguerie, 20 rue des Serruriers
Famous craft store has also one address in Strasbourg. Beads, ribbons, knitting yarn... basically everything you might need for your next project.

- Mémé en Autriche, 7-11 rue des Bouchers
Colourful objects, very scandinavian feeling. Home deco, accessories, etc. A bit outside the city center but well worth checking out.

- hic & nunc 4 rue de la Brigade Alsace-Lorraine
Young, local designers, mostly small accessories. Lovely selection of handmade jewellery (see the photos above!) Near Mémé en Autriche shop.

- Speak Out, 43 Grand Rue
Nice shop with a vintage feeling in the center of the town.

GETTING AROUND

- Walking & tram. You can definetily discover the city center just by walking, but there's also several tram lines if you're feeling tired!

- Biking. Biking is hugely popular in Strasbourg. Rent your own from Vélhop, you see their green/silver bikes everywhere.

Viimeisimmältä Euroopanreissulta kertyi niin paljon kuvia, lippuja ja lappuja sekä muistoja, että niiden läpikäynti on vähän kestänyt. Tarkoituksena on kuitenkin kirjoittaa tässä parin viikon sisällä joka kaupungista pieni matkaopas, ja tässä kaupungeista ensimmäinen: Strasbourg. Ihan koko opasta en kuitenkaan jaksa suomeksi kääntää, joten huikatkaa jos jotain jää epäselväksi! Onko siellä muita Strasbourgissa käyneitä? Mitä tykkäsitte? Jos on jotain lisävinkkejä, niin mielelläni ottaisin niitä vastaan seuraavaa visiittiä varten :)

Ecodesigner of the week: Good Guys

I'm always on a lookout for nice ecological shoe brands, since shoes is really something we all have to wear and I think that all shoes should be comfy, style and ecological. Recently I found Good Guys, a french brand making ecological shoes, and I really like their styling. They have several shops in Paris so I guess I should go and try some of their models to see if they fit!

Do Good Not Harm, Wear Good Guys!
— Good Guys try to make a difference by creating a fashionable, yet vegan shoe which contains no animal ingredients.
— The use of materials such as microfiber, canvas and natural rubber result in a light, waterproof, durable and comfortable shoe.
— The shoes are unisex, designed in Paris and made in Portugal.— All materials are waterproof, non toxic, breathable, durable and light.

Also, I think it's hard to find shoes that are neither totally flat nor with high heels. For walking long distances, I prefer a heel of inch or two. That's why these models look so comfy. Have you ever had the same problem when shopping for shoes?

Hyvät ekologiset kenkämerkit on itselläni jatkuvassa etsinnässä. Kaikki kuitenkin joutuu kenkiä käyttämään, joten omasta mielestäni niiden tulisi sitten saman tien olla tyylikkäät, mukavat ja ympäristöä kunnioittavat. Viimeisin löytöni on Good Guys, ranskalainen kenkämerkki, jonka tuotteista tykkään ainakin kuvien perusteella kovasti. Merkki näyttää olevan edustettuna useammassakin pariisilaisputiikissa, joten täytynee käydä sovittelemassa!

Omalla kohdallani kenkäostosten kompastuskivi on usein se, ettei tahdo löytyä kuin tosi matalia tai tosi korkeakorkoisia kenkiä. Mieluiten kävelykengiksi valitsisin kuitenkin jotain siitä väliltä, parin sentin korolla. Niitä on kuitenkin mielestäni vaikea löytää, vai olenko ainut tämän ongelman kanssa?

This week-end: We Love Green

Hey all, hope you're having a great weekend! The weather has been great in Paris this weekend (finally!) and we've spent most of time outdoors. And that's also for today, since I'm going to the festival We Love Green. 



We Love Green is a music/art festival here in Paris, and it's supposed to be an all-ecological event. I'm curious to see what it's going to be like, since this is the first time I'm going. I promise to tell you later all about it!

Hei, miten viikonloppu sujuu? Pariisiin on (viimein!) saapunut hyvät säät, joten meidän viikonloppu on sujunut enimmäkseen ulkona. Eilen vuorossa oli esimerkiksi koko iltapäivä mölkyn, kyykän ja petankin peluuta hyvässä seurassa :) Mölkky on tosi suosittua Pariisissa, joten useat sen jo tuntevatkin, mutta kyykkä herätti vähän kummastuneita katseita ;) 



No, tänään raittiista ilmasta nauttiminen jatkuu, sillä olen suuntaamassa We Love Green- festareille. Kyseessä on siis musiikki/taide- festivaalit täällä Pariisissa, ja koko tapahtuman on mainostettu olevan täysin ekologisesti järjestetty. Pitää siis mennä paikan päälle katsomaan mikä meininki, hyvältä kuulostaa! Lupaan laittaa sitten kuvia tännekin :)

Ecodesigner of the week: boboboom

This past weekend with my mon we visited Ma planete mieux, an ecological lifestyle fair here in Paris. One of the most interesting brands I spotted was Boboboom. They make bright and modern home decoration items and small furniture mostly out of upcycled materials. I think they have a great stye, I especially like these bottle lamps!

 Boboboom is a creative company specialized in the design of furniture and decorative objects. We would like to believe that our creations bring personality and individualism into the living spaces they adorn.

At Boboboom, we pride ourselves in our fierce commitment to upcycling and we think that reinvesting in our environment is a priority: to save our planet we must reuse and not discard.

Viikonloppuna piipahdettiin äidin kanssa Ma planete mieux - messuilla täällä Pariisissa. Messut keskittyvät ekologiseen elämäntyyliin ja muutama hyvä juttu tulikin bongattua. Yksi niistä on Boboboom, joka valmistaa kodin sisustustuotteita ja pienhuonekaluja enimmäkseen kierrätysmatskuja käyttäen. Boboboomin tyyli iskee ainakin minuun, nuo pullolamput esimerkiksi on ihania!

Saturday in Giverny

What are you guys up to this weekend? My mon is visiting us and that's why yesterday we decided to go for a day trip in Giverny, the town where Claude Monet used to live and paint. His gardens are incredible, so it was really worth visiting. Have you ever been?

Hei, miten viikonloppu sujuu? Me käytiin eilen päiväretkellä Givernyssä, Claude Monet:n kotikaupungissa. Mun äiti on vierailulla meidän luona, joten hyödynnettiin tätä tekosyytä visiitin tekoon, sillä itsekään en ole koskaan ennen käynyt Givernyssä! Oli kyllä vierailun arvoinen paikka, onko joku muu joskus käynyt?



Nyt suuntaan töihin mutta nähdään taas ensi viikon puolella. Mutta tosi hyvää sunnuntaita kaikille!

Ecodesigner of the week: Elvis & Kresse

Hey, all did you have a good weekend? I was so busy at work but I hope during this week I can relax a bit more. Anyway, todays ecodesigners is Elvis & Kresse from UK. Elvis & Kresse specialises in producing luxury accessories from old firehose and other reclaimed material. Lately, Cameron Diaz wore one of their belts in a shoot for American Vogue! 

Elvis & Kresse have been reclaiming heroic materials ever since we fell in love with London Fire Brigade's decommissioned fire-hose. After a distinguished career fighting fires and saving lives the hoses were destined for landfill. We started to rescue it in 2005 and never looked back. 

More materials soon followed, Kresse has always had an obsession with waste and likes nothing better than discovering and intercepting something new. The challenge is the same every time - what can we do to prove value, change perception, and respect these resources.

We dream of a time without landfill, when everything is recycled or composted. Between now and then we know there are far too many incredible materials that will either languish under ground or suffer the indignity of incineration; when that happens we lose, we lose quality, narrative, and the opportunity to do something great. So we intercede, choosing story laden materials of incredible character, and do everything we can to ensure their second life is as long as possible.

We are constantly searching for more materials to grow our range of bags, belts and wallets, and have rescued over 200 tonnes so far.

Hei, miten viikonloppu sujui? Itselläni meni kiireisesti työn merkeissä, toivottavasti tällä viikolla voi ottaa vähän rennommin. Tänään on kuitenkin viikon ecodesignerin vuoro, joksi valikoitui tällä kertaa brittiläinen Elvis & Kresse. Elvis & Kresse valmistaa luksusasusteita vanhoista paloletkuista ja muista ylijäämämateriaaleista. Hyvältä näyttää ainakin omasta mielestäni, ja ilmeisesti myös Cameron Diaz tykkää, sillä hänen päällään näitä on nähty vähän aikaa sitten amerikan Voguessa! Oma suosikkini on kyllä tuo matto, mutta myös laukku kelpaisi, tai vyö, tai... Mitäs te tykkäätte? Ja muuten, jos on vinkkejä hyvistä ecodesignereista niin innolla otetaan vastaan! Siihen asti, hyvää alkavaa viikkoa :)
